Anyone who has decided to start – or restart – their fitness journey knows that it’s an exciting step that can also feel intimidating. The fitness world is full of confusing and sometimes contradictory information, which can make it difficult to know exactly where to begin. Here at TSF, we know that there isn’t a “one size fits all” approach to fitness – because every body, lifestyle, and goal is completely unique! Instead of approaching all of our members the same way, our trainers take the time to meet and learn about you from your very first visit with us. To hear more about how we support our members along their fitness journey, read below!
Steps for Starting Your Fitness Journey
- Set Meaningful Fitness Goals
Most people are familiar with setting fitness goals. Oftentimes, they sound something like – “I want to lose fat and gain muscle,” or “I want to weigh 180 pounds at 10% body fat.” But here at TSF, we look at goals on a much deeper level than just appearance or numbers on a scale.
Our commitment to you is to help you look, feel and be your best. That’s why we take the time to learn about our new members so we can help them set fitness goals that really, deeply matter to them!
Maybe you want to be able to play with your kids or grandkids without your knees and back hurting. Maybe you’d like to be able to keep up with all your friends when hiking Camelback Mountain. Maybe you want to feel totally confident in a swimsuit. Maybe you want to be able to take the stairs without feeling winded. Maybe you want your partner to look at you and not be able to help but think, “Wow you’re fine!”
If you’ve thought about what will really light your fire, there’s no wrong answer!
Your workout program and fitness goals may change over time as you learn more about what works for you, your body, and your lifestyle, and that’s totally fine! Regardless, starting by examining what is truly important to you will be so much more motivating than simply having a vague idea about how many pounds you want to lose or gain.
- Identify Your Starting Point
We make sure that every new TSF member is given an accurate measurement of their starting point. By tracking your progress from the beginning, you’ll be able to see the bigger picture and stay optimistic as you work towards your goals!
At your initial assessment, we’ll use our InBody Body Composition Analysis Machine to measure muscle, fat, total body water, and how evenly your muscle tissue is distributed between your arms, legs, and torso. We use this information to customize your workout program as you make progress and to remind you that there are more important measurements than the number on a scale. Remember, we don’t help you “weigh your best,” we help you look, feel, and be your best!
Change is challenging, and sometimes it can feel easier to give up. But with the support of your trainer and tracked progress along the way, you’ll feel empowered and strong as you make your way to conquering your fitness goals.
- Find a Supportive Community
Gyms are so much more than the equipment inside, and we pride ourselves on the inclusive, supportive, energetic community that we’ve fostered at TSF. While some gyms offer large group training and others provide personal training, we specialize in offering the best of both worlds.
TSF’s micro group training is limited to only 5 members where a certified trainer will guide the group through 45 a minute workout. This class size ensures that our members receive individual attention on their form and progress from their trainer, but also provides support and encouragement from their fellow members.
Having encouragement and accountability from a tight-knit community like TSF contributes immensely to the joy our members find along their fitness journey.
